Miles named to NJCAA Student-Athlete Council
Mississippi Delta sophomore wide receiver Treveon Miles and Pearl River sophomore guard Allanah Turner were voted the MACCC's representatives by a panel of the conference's athletic directors.
Miles, a native of Woodville, Miss., is an engineering major. He was recently named a Distinguished Academic All-State awardee by the MACCC, as well as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic Second Team.
"First, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for my abilities in the classroom and on the football field," said Miles. " It's truly an honor to be selected for such an achievement. Special thanks go out to my parents, coaches and all of my supporters for the encouragement."
Trojans Head Coach Jeff Tatum sung Miles' praises following the announcement of his selection.
"This is a great honor for Treveon, and one that is very well deserved, said Tatum. "His work in the classroom and on the field speaks for itself, and he will be a perfect representative of our region for the NJCAA Student-Athlete Council. He is an outstanding model for what we want the young men in our program to be, and we could not be more thrilled for him."
The council aims to provide student-athletes from all 24 NJCAA regions the opportunity to engage and grow while attending their two-year institution, at a national level. The council will meet via Zoom throughout the year to discuss relevant dynamics surrounding student-athletes at the two-year college level today. Council members will also attend the annual NJCAA Convention, serve a variety of roles on the council, assist with decision making, as well as propose new ideas in meetings with NJCAA leadership and national office leadership.
Goals for the committee include but are not limited to: Advance NJCAA student-athlete voices to include them in national dialogue, create new opportunities for the student-athletes experience, encourage student-athlete opinions on current or proposed legislation, provide recommendations based on student-athlete involvement, and increase engagement and participation by NJCAA Student-Athletes at a regional and national scope.
The MACCC is well-represented among NJCAA national leadership. Earlier this month, it was announced that MACCC Commissioner Steve B. Martin was named to the NJCAA's Committee for Racial Equality.
