Trojans to play at ICC on Halloween
The Mississippi Delta Community College football team will return to action at 1 p.m. on Halloween at Itawamba Community College. The original date was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, but due to the Trojans being forced to pause football operations for two weeks, the game was pushed back two days to allow MDCC more time to get re-acclimated.
Delta has been forced to shuffle numerous contests around thus far in the 2020 season, including having to cancel their Oct. 17 home date with Holmes Community College, due to the Bulldogs being on a two-week hiatus concerning COVID-19. MDCC was set to play at Coahoma Community College this Saturday, but after the two-week quarantine, this game has been moved to Nov. 12 in Clarksdale.
ICC and CCC will now take the place of the MDCC/CCC game this weekend when the two teams will face off in Clarksdale, as opposed to the regularly scheduled Nov. 12 date. Delta and ICC will now just swap dates at Coahoma to ensure that the regular season continues with the least amount of interruptions as possible.
"We understand and appreciate the situation that Mississippi Delta is faced with coming out of quarantine," said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen, in what was an extremely classy gesture by the ICC administration. "While the situation isn't ideal, we wanted to go the extra mile since Delta's previous games have been postponed to help their players have the best opportunity to be scouted to possibly extend their educational opportunities through future athletic scholarships."
The 1 p.m. kickoff can be seen on LetsGoICCTV.com/red for those unable to attend Saturday's game in Fulton, which will still be under the 25% capacity rule due to the Governor's mandate for colleges and universities.
