MDCC Football Recruiting Day Success
By Neshun Holmes
The Mississippi Delta Community College football program hosted a recruiting day on Saturday, January 10, welcoming prospective student-athletes and their families to campus for a full-day experience led by the Trojans coaching staff. Coach Jermaine Smith described the day as productive and intentionally different from a traditional recruiting visit. "We had a strong number of official visitors, and this is a big step in the direction we want to take our program. Now we just have to get them signed," Smith said.
Throughout the day, MDCC football coaches created a welcoming and personal environment for the recruits and their families. Coaches and current MDCC students led small-group campus tours, offering visitors a firsthand look at academic facilities, residence halls, and student life. They also served lunch catered by Southern Satisfaction, giving recruits and their families a taste of Moorhead hospitality and good eats.
Several recruits shared positive feedback about their experience. Master McNeil said the visit left a strong impression. "I'm feeling good about what I'm seeing," McNeil said. "New places, new coaches, the new dorms—it's all really nice." Another attendee added that the visit made MDCC a serious option moving forward.
Recruit Jon Burse emphasized the welcoming atmosphere and campus environment. "The facilities are nice, the people are welcoming, and the dorms really stood out," Burse said. Parents echoed that sentiment, emphasizing both academics and trust in the program's leadership. Felicia Burse, Jon's mother, expressed confidence in the MDCC staff. "I feel really comfortable knowing the staff will take care of my son," she said. "I'm excited about the academics, the new coaching staff, and the new athletic director."
The recruiting day reflected MDCC Football's continued commitment to building strong relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families while setting a clear vision for the future of the program. With a coaching staff and administration eager for growth, a lot of great things are happening on Trojan grounds. Follow along with us as we continue to make effective moves at MDCC!
