The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 76-74 home victory over East Central Community College on February 5, showing poise, execution, and growth in a tightly contested matchup at MDCC. The win moves the Trojans to 7-12 on the season and marked an important step forward in closing out close games.
Jordan Comanche (#13) led MDCC with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Antron Mason (#24) added 19 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Courtland Sloan (#1) chipped in 13 points, continuing his steady offensive contributions. A strong start to the second half proved pivotal, as the Trojans scored on seven of their first nine possessions to regain control and build momentum. The game came down to the final seconds, where Mason delivered a clutch steal before Comanche found Jordan Johnson (#20) for the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining. Johnson finished with a double-double, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Head Coach Fears praised his team's late-game execution, noting the improved ability to finish games and capitalize on key possessions down the stretch. Comanche echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the team's togetherness and commitment to sharing the ball when it mattered most. While MDCC continues to focus on defensive consistency, the Trojans showed clear progress in closing out tight contests. They will look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, MS, on Saturday, February 7, with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
