By Neshun Holmes
The Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans faced a tough road test on February 2, falling 60–39 to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Lady Bulldogs at Dantzler Arena. Playing in a challenging road environment, MDCC battled throughout the contest but was unable to overcome MGCCC's home-court advantage. The Lady Trojans trailed 14-10 after the first quarter and continued to fight through each period, showing resilience despite shooting struggles from the perimeter.
Individually, several Lady Trojans stepped up with steady efforts. Starter X'Zaylah Yarbor (#10) led the team with 8 points and 5 rebounds, while E'kemi Johnson (#1) added 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals, contributing on both ends of the floor. Kynaja Marshall (#21) chipped in 7 points, and MDCC remained solid at the free-throw line, converting 64.3 percent of their attempts. Although the Lady Trojans were unable to connect from beyond the arc, their effort and defensive activity kept them competing through all four quarters.
As conference play continues, the Lady Trojans remain focused on growth and perseverance. Early in the conference season, Torletta Johnson (#4) set the tone for the team's mindset, stating, "I can accept failure; everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying," while also acknowledging the challenge ahead and the belief within the team. That determination continues to define MDCC as they work to refine their game and build momentum.
The Lady Trojans move to 6-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play and will return home on Thursday, February 5, to face East Central Community College. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lady Trojans as they look to defend their home court and continue pushing forward.
